Procedure
- Step 1: First thing, if you are just replacing the dome lights, just remove the clear plastic cover. The lights should be able to be removed pretty easily.
-
Step 2: If the buttons need to be replaced, or if you need to get access to the sunroof motor, remove the plastic tray that covers the switches. Place a flat-head screwdriver near the sunroof switch, and gently pry the plastic off from the clips, and pull straight down.
Once the plate is removed, use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws in the housing.
-
Step 3: Place your fingers in the holes where the dome lights went, and gently pull straight down.
Remove the wiring harness. The plastic connectors should be easy to remove. There is a strap that holds a part on that will have to be carefully cut. 🙂
-
Step 4: Remove the 3 Torx-25 from the Sunroof Motor. Remove the wiring harness from the motor.
To replace, do everything in reverse order. Consult the linked YouTube video for more details.

Troubleshooting
- I have no lights after I reinstall the dome light.
- There are three things to check. Make sure you didn’t damage the bulbs when working with the unit. Another thing to check is to make sure both light bulbs are seated correctly in the socket. The last thing is to make sure you plugged in all connectors to the back of the dome light unit.
